World of James Herriot Museum Sponsors Parrot at Local Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary

Thirsk’s beloved veterinary museum extends its commitment to animal welfare through meaningful partnership

THIRSK, North Yorkshire – The World of James Herriot Museum has announced its sponsorship of a parrot named “Zeke” at the Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary in Thirsk, demonstrating the museum’s ongoing dedication to animal welfare that mirrors the compassionate spirit of the famous Yorkshire veterinarian Alf Wight better known “James Herriot”, the most famous vet in the world.

The sponsorship represents a natural partnership between two Thirsk-based organisations committed to animal care and education. Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary is a parrot rescue and welfare centre located near Thirsk in the heart of North Yorkshire, operating as a registered charity (Number 1202748).

“This sponsorship perfectly aligns with James Herriot’s lifelong passion for animal welfare,” said Kate Pawlett, Centre Manager at the World of James Herriot Museum. “Just as James Herriot dedicated his life to caring for all creatures great and small, we’re proud to support the vital work being done at Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary right here in our local community.”

The Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary provides rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming services for parrots and exotic birds in need. The sanctuary also cares for sick, injured and chronically ill parrots that require lifetime care, reflecting the same commitment to animal welfare that James Herriot championed throughout his career.

This partnership highlights the continuing relevance of James Herriot’s veterinary legacy in modern animal welfare initiatives. The museum, which celebrates the life and work of the world’s most famous veterinarian, regularly supports local animal welfare causes as part of its mission to promote compassionate care for all animals.

The World of James Herriot Museum welcomes in excess of 45,000 visitors annually to its authentic recreation of James Herriot’s veterinary practice and family home. The museum continues to attract and inspire visitors from around the world with the timeless message that all animals deserve care, respect, and protection – values that extend naturally to supporting organisations like Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary.
