Accessibility at the World of James Herriot

We are committed to making the World of James Herriot as accessible and welcoming as possible for all visitors. Housed within the original home and veterinary surgery of Alf Wight (James Herriot), our attraction combines a historic building with modern accessibility features to help everyone enjoy their visit.

Getting here

There is a public car park within a few minutes walk from the attraction. There is also limited street parking on the street outside.

Entrance and reception

The main entrance is wheelchair accessible. Our reception and shop area have level access and plenty of space to move around.

Wheelchair access

The attraction is fully accessible for wheelchair users. We offer free wheelchair loan for visitors who need it. Please ask at reception on arrival.

Lifts

Self operated lifts provides access to the upper floor levels.

Toilets

Accessible toilets are available on the ground floor. These include handrails and an emergency pull cord.

Gardens

The garden area is accessible for wheelchair users and has level pathways.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the attraction.

Visitors with visual impairments

A Braille guide is available on request. Please ask a member of staff when you arrive.

Seating

Seating is available throughout the attraction for visitors who may need to rest during their visit.
