Step into the World of James Herriot: Where learning comes to life…
Looking for school trips in North Yorkshire that are both fun and enriching? Bring your students to the World of James Herriot in Thirsk and transport them to the fascinating world of a 1940s Yorkshire vet. Here, history, science, and literature intertwine, offering a unique learning experience that goes beyond the classroom.
An Engaging and Educational School Trip in North Yorkshire…
Interactive Learning: Our hands-on exhibits bring the curriculum to life. Students can explore the challenges and triumphs of veterinary medicine, experiencing what it was like to care for animals in a different era. From understanding animal anatomy to exploring the impact of wartime on rural communities, there’s something for everyone.
Real-World Connections: See James Herriot’s original 1940s home and surgery, offering a tangible link to the past. Walking through the rooms where he lived and worked provides a powerful connection to the stories they’ve read. Seeing his car adds another layer of authenticity to the experience.
Curriculum Enrichment: Our exhibits and activities can directly support the national curriculum, particularly in areas like history, science, and literacy. We offer resources and pre-visit materials to help teachers prepare their students and make the most of their visit.
Affordable Education: School group rates apply to parties of 10 or more pupils. Accompanying teachers and supervisors are admitted completely free of charge. We’re committed to making educational visits accessible, and we’re happy to discuss your group’s needs when you get in touch.
What to Expect on the Day:Â A typical school visit to the World of James Herriot lasts around two hours and is fully self-guided, giving teachers the flexibility to spend more time in the areas most relevant to their class. Our friendly staff are on hand throughout your visit to support your group and answer questions.
Students will explore the original 1940s home and veterinary surgery, try hands-on interactive exhibits, and discover the real story of Alf Wight — the man the world knew as James Herriot. It’s an experience that brings the classroom to life in a way that stays with children long after the visit.
