An Introductory Message From Alfiya Stephenson. Specialist Co-ordinator for Russian Speaking Countries.
Hello, As the ‘World of James Herriot’ continues to develop we are keen to open up and reach out to our loyal, and new, friends and supporters in the Russian speaking world and I am very excited to have been appointed to co-ordinate this project.The launch of this dedicated Russian language website is one of my first steps but there are many more great things to come.
As a native Russian speaker and adopted ‘honorary Yorkshire lass’ I am very excited to be building links, developing friendships and supporting visits to the wonderful North Yorkshire region and in particular the ‘World of James Herriot’ museum in Thirsk.
I was born, brought up and educated in the former Soviet Union and then travelled and lived in Central Asia and the Middle East before settling at my new home in the spectacular scenery of ‘Herriot Country’.
I am now privileged to live in the heart of rural Yorkshire surrounded by the scenery, people, animals and history which have made the Herriot books and TV series a worldwide phenomenon. My mission is to share the delights of this region with the Russian speaking world in as many ways as possible and I look forward to being in touch with many of you as we move forward.
In the coming weeks and months I will be working to make contact with Russian speaking groups of Herriot enthusiasts, travel & tourism companies, museums and educational organisations across the Russian speaking world to develop links and explore ideas.
The team at ‘World of James Herriot’ have some great plans in the pipeline for the future. I am also keen to listen to new ideas and to work with enthusiasts to develop opportunities and to help where I can in organising visits, tours and educational programs.
